A Little Honesty

So if you are a regular visitor to Cheeky Reads you might have noticed that I haven't posted any reviews in the past week or so and that most of my posts have been giveaways or guest posts. There's a reason for that and I thought it only fair to be honest with my readers. I've been kinda down in the dumps lately. It didn't feel right to write reviews for books when I knew my dumpy attitude might have a negative impact on what I would say. I also stopped reading review books during this time. Again, I didn't want my mood to creep into my feelings about a book.

Now, I think there is an interesting side point in this. That is, that it's important to remember that every reader brings their mood, experiences, attitude, etc to the reading of a book. So no matter when I read something, it will always be regarded through the lens of all those things. These are things every reviewer and reader brings to a book. But, this time I knew that my circumstances would affect my reading and reviewing more so than ever before and wanted to be fair to those books and authors.

I'm still not feeling as cheerful as my normal self, which I have to say is usually pretty darn chipper. I do suddenly sense the black cloud lifting and can feel the need to find something awesome to read. That lets me know I can do a book justice again. So, I'm happy to say I'm back to reading and you'll start seeing reviews here again very soon along with great giveaways and guest authors.

Thanks for sticking with me and for allowing me a place to express my love of books. My followers kick ass and I always love to hear from you.

So, what do you do when you are feeling a little blah? Is there something that always cheers you up or helps chase away sadness? I could use the help!

  1. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better, or at least crawling back out of the dumps you felt yourself in before. I have no great, instant work trick to share, but I do have a few self remedies I often give a shot. It's also my guilty secret, so maybe this might cheer you up a little more...

See, when I'm feeling down in the dumps, I watch... Mary Kate and Ashley movies. The ones from when they're a little older.. like "Passport to Paris," "Winning London," or "When in Rome".. I bought them all on DVD (Except "Passport to Paris".. that's my next goal!) to watch when I'm feeling crappy. And the cheesy-ness and overall "yay!" feeling at the end usually makes me happy. I've also noticed the Amanda Bynes movie "What a Girl Wants" is very helpful...

    Ahem. Feel better!

  3. Aww, I hope your feeling better soon and able to chase those blues away. But I know exactly what your talking about here. My mood does effect my reading but it's also what I use to escape the real world when I'm in the dumps or when I'm happy, etc. Reading is my catch-all.

    Take care! :)

  4. Lol, you have to love it when everyone posts they re-read favorite books! I turn to my "comfort" reads, those books you love no matter how many times you read them. I also like to watch movies, usually drooling over Collin Firth in Pride and Prejudice. I'm sorry you are down in the dumps and hope you get feeling better soon!

  5. I totally understand about the dumps. For me the winter season brings them on but nothing cheers me up better than laughter. My DH is really good at making me laugh when I'm down. I also watch silly animal clips - like children at play they have a soothing effect on me. I usually select from my TBR pile based on my mood. If I'm frustrated or pissy I won't read something that's sure to spark my anger (some tropes really push my buttons). I hope you find something to laugh at and feel better soon...

  7. So sorry to hear you've been down. The weather here has been awful for April (it snowed yesterday) and it has been making me grouchy. Which does show in my reviews.

Rereading a silly book usually helps me if I can't bear to read something new at the moment. Sandra Hill, Lynsay Sands or Janet Evanovich are my go-to girls for LOL books that make me smile whether I want to or not.

Hope you're back to your normal, cheerful self soon!
