AudioBook Week (Hosted by the lovely Devourer of Books) continues with today's topic - When/Where do you listen?
I'm excited to hear from other Audio Book lovers where they listen, but I'd also like to ask non-Audio Book listeners if they can think of times in their day where an audio book might be a great fit or help them make it through the day. I'd love to see if we can give suggestions to non-listeners and get them to try out Audio Books.
Personally, the number one spot I listen is in my car on my daily commute to and from work. I seriously hate radio DJ’s and their annoying chatter, but I also never really liked talk radio. At first I thought Audio Books would equate to talk radio, but I was so wrong.
Another awesome time I listen to audio books is on long car rides or vacations. I love picking something the hubby and I might both love and we can share the book together. We don’t have kids, but I can see how cool it might be to pick a book to entertain the entire family on a road trip.
The best guilty pleasure place I listen to Audio Books? While I’m in the tub! You ladies know that when you have water and bubbles it can make reading a book not the most relaxing experience. Who wants to keep wiping their wet hands off in order to turn the page or worry about dropping the book into the water? Putting on an Audio Book lets me relax into the bath and really escape.
So, where do you listen? Give our non-listeners some tips and hints for how Audio Books can expand their reading and make their day better! If you don’t listen to books, what do you think is holding you back? Comment to enter to win a brand new Audio Book from my pile. I’ll email the winner a list to choose from!
Sorry, but contest is open to US and Canada residents only at this time. Winner will be announed on Friday afternoon June 25th.
I love audio books. In reality, I am never without a book because I can "read" in my car while driving, and yes, recently in the tub. Its wonderful. When the kids are at school, I enjoy listening while doing mundane things as cleaning the kitchen, and laundry.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of listening to an audiobook in the bathtub, but I don't think I could stay in very long, though, because I can't just sit still and listen very long.
ReplyDeleteI listen mostly in the car, but have been using my ipod a lot more lately. Now if I could only find more comfortable earbuds...
ReplyDeleteAudiobooks help make any task go by quickly -- I've listed at least 10 ideas on my my blog today!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried audio books yet, but my mother loves them. I can think of two instances that would be good times to go audio - while I'm knitting and when I go for walks.

I have to drive 1.5 hours one way to find a decent mall, a Target store or *sniffle* a decent bookstore. So I listen on my once a month trips to civilization in the car.
ReplyDeleteI download books to my Ipod, though, so I also listen while doing housework. It helps keep me from planting myself on the couch to read when I *should* be cooking, cleaning or working in the yard. I can read and get those chores done at the same time.
I listen in the car on my commute to and from work.

I listen while I'm doing my daily chores. I put the cd in the stereo and can hear it while I clean the house. I also listen in the car when I'm alone.

I haven't tried picking up audiobooks to listen to again after checking out one from the local library. The book itself was good (read it later) and my reason for dislike was totally to do with the narrator. The woman used the same monotone voice throughout the whole book (well halfway where I decided to stop it at).
ReplyDeleteI do realize this doesn't describe every audiobook out there, but after this experience I've been sort of lost as to what to try again et.

I have only tried a couple of audio books and most of the time I end up frustrated because I read faster than the narrator narrates. I did enjoy listening to one book when I moved across states in a 20 hour drive but most of the time I don't spend that much time in the car. It's not that I dislike audio books, its just that I am interested to know what is going to happen next and feel like I could get to the good bits faster by reading it myself.
ReplyDeleteI love to listen to audio books when I go for long walks and sometimes when I am cleaning my house.
